Notes from the meeting

Introductions: Share one thing you miss from your childhood.

Definitions in place:

Generations - defined by common knowledge, common experiences (where were you moments) unite people

Silent Generation - born 1925 -1945

Baby Boomers -  born  1946-1964

Generation X - born 1965 - 1979

Millennials - born 1981-1994/96

Generation Z - born 1997-2012

Different generations have different expectations, communication styles, and values.

Examples include; taking time off (mental health days)

Discussion topics:

  •  Experiences and personal stories.
  • “Does anyone work with various generations?”
  • “Does anyone know if generations are considered when making policy in their work environment?” Example:  outdated documents and job descriptions

Acknowledge generation differences, but treat them as an individual.

Challenges when leading/managing older individuals.

  •  “It’s how we always did it.”
  • Push back against change.

Mentoring without parenting. How do you do it gracefully?

Next topic will be tough conversations.
